Eric Baillies - 19th Century Photographic Artist

My interests in photography have been there for as long as I can remember.  Growing up with a dad as a chemist, with a hobby as photography I grew up with a dark room in my basement.

As a commercial photographer with 10 years experience the exploration and practice of 19th Century photographic techniques came purely out of a passion for the history, the engagement and the shear joy of making something from scratch.

The connection between the viewer and the photograph became more impactful and more connective, driving me to want to learn more.

With a strong desire I was fortunate to find the George Eastman House in Rochester, NY.  Where process historian Mark Osterman as a leading expert in the field, great teacher and mentor has had a big impact on allowing myself access to the information to be successful in these producing these images.

In 2018 I was displaced from my studio at Winnebago Studios to development, which gave me the opportunity to make a dream studio at my home.

In August, I will have a completely functional 19th Century natural light studio that is designed and built for producing collodion wet and dry positives and negatives.  Complete with a dark room, hvac and UV print table, I will be able to begin producing images again.
